UN Women in the Pacific works in partnership with national governments, civil society, women’s organisations and the private sector. It also collaborates with intergovernmental bodies, organisations and other development partners in progressing gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Pacific. At present with its central office based in Fiji, UN Women has field presence and programs in the following countries: Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Kiribati and Samoa.
In 2013 UN Women’s presence was enhanced through its participation in the UN Joint Presences in the Pacific and currently hosts the Joint Presence in Nauru. With continuing development to meet the needs for gender equality, UN Women Papua New Guinea is now a fully-fledged Country office. UN Women provides technical support to other UN agencies working in the Pacific, particularly the UN Multi-Country Offices in Fiji and Samoa, and the UN Papua New Guinea (PNG) Country Office. With its strategic presence in PNG, UN Women is making a solid contribution to the One UN Country Program and UN Development Assistance Framework in the country that has the most challenging gender indicators.
